The Harvard Extension School offers more than more than 600
open-enrollment courses in 60 fields of study to a variety of students
with an array of backgrounds. One hundred of these courses, including more
than 20 Harvard College courses, are available online to anyone in the
world. Although it has degree programs, many of its students may only take
a few courses. Its faculty, in part drawn from around the University,
often bring their valuable research to the classroom, while its Distance
Education initiative has emerged as a proving ground for Harvard faculty
experimenting with online teaching methods and technology.
