In many fields of endeavor, the phrase "hands-on training" has little real meaning beyond referring to new practitioners actually doing something themselves. But in surgery, the words have very precise meaning, as the hands of one generation literally guide the hands of the next. Here, an experienced obstetrician at Massachusetts General Hospital guides a resident through a cesarean delivery.
